Sonya and Desmond met at Tuskegee University in Alabama at a school talent show.
There must have been a lot of great performances, but the real hit was Sonya and Desmond hitting it off! When Desmond knew it was time to ask Sonya to spend the rest of their lives together, he popped the question. It was their regular Sunday night off and they were watching Sunday Night Football.

“Des sent me to check on our dog Chloe because she was missing in action for way too long. When I got to my bedroom, Chloe was attacking something on the floor. When I looked to see what it was, I saw a Johnny Dang & Co. bag and a box. I got nervous and began to open the box. It was EMPTY! Before I could even say anything, I turned around and there was the officer himself down on one knee with the most gorgeous rock I have ever seen! I bawled like a baby and completely don’t remember anything besides screaming YES!”

Finding the perfect wedding venue is a bit like searching for a hidden treasure. Sometimes it is in plain view and closer than you might imagine. As Sonya and Desmond can attest, they wanted an elegant and romantic beach destination wedding. Much closer to home than they originally had in mind; they fell in love with The Veranda Ballroom at the Galveston’s Hotel Galvez. The Hotel Galvez is a destination wedding in and of itself! Close enough for most Texans as well as the Gulf coast states, yet a world away in romantic ambiance and charm! The historic Hotel Galvez is a royal gem on Galveston Island. The unique ballrooms appear to have been transported straight out of a glamorous Hollywood scene; an elegant, vintage-looking location for a wedding and reception as well as the perfect background for stunning wedding photography!

When Sonya first saw Desmond on their wedding day, she could not stop smiling!
“He looked so handsome!” Of course, the beautiful bride had something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue: her necklace (borrowed), her earrings (new), and a tiny blue bow on the tulle of her dress.

Sonya’s gorgeous gown was by Alfred Angelo, and the exquisite floral designs were by Dream Bouquet. 160 guests celebrated with them and enjoyed delicious cakes by “Cakes by Jula” of League City. The nervous groom tried to cut the cake with the server and not the knife. Therefore, the piece that he cut definitely didn’t quite look like a ‘slice’ of cake which gave the bride a fit of laughter!

An important tip from Sonya and Desmond for future brides and grooms:
“Don’t stress on the day of the wedding. Allow your bridesmaids and family to take care of all unexpected problems and don’t ask any questions! Trust them to take care of it.
I had an incredible group of bridesmaids that answered my phone, ran around the hotel, and gave out orders if needed, so I could relax and enjoy every moment!”

After a spectacular wedding day celebration at Galveston Island’s Hotel Galvez, Sonya and Desmond were off to spend 7 fabulous days in Montego Bay, Jamaica! What an extraordinary beginning to their married life together! SGI Photography wishes them all the best!

When my husband and I first met Slava, we knew we wanted him to photograph our wedding right away. His professionalism and sense of humor matched our personalities. He made taking 100s of pictures fun and captured candid moments throughout the day. The best part was getting my proofs a day after the wedding and picking up my picture CD and the complete album only 2 weeks after my honeymoon! All the pictures were absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to work with him again for my maternity pics (lol)! Slava is worth every penny!” Sonya, Houston TX
